Permanent exhibition

The history of the Donnersmarcks

The title of the exhibition refers to the numerous orders and other decorations held by members of the Henckel von Donnersmarck family. The exhibits – in the form of boards and original decorations – are presented in the so-called safe room. The decorations were transferred to the Center on deposit until 2030 by Count Andreas Henckel von Donnersmarck, and they are:

  • Military and Civil Order of Merit of Adolf of Nassau, Grand Cross with Star – the second highest decoration awarded in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, received by Count Lazarus V and his son,
  • Count Charles Joseph Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta, Knight of Honor and Devotion Cross – awarded to Count Charles Joseph

They are complemented by occasional photos of Counts Lazarus V and Charles Joseph, who are wearing the above-mentioned decorations.

In the safe room there are also several other souvenirs related to the palace. First of all, it is a huge, unique safe, an original inkwell and a plate. In a separate display case there are: books and a plaque from the grave of the count’s butler. Antique furniture and porcelain were purchased by the Center or were donated
