“Finding peace” – art exhibition as therapy for the soul

February 6 - April 6, 2025

The Silesian Culture Centre in Nakło Śląskie is hosting an exhibition entitled “Finding Peace”, featuring works by patients of the Mental Health Centre in Tarnowskie Góry. This event is proof of what a powerful therapeutic tool art can be.

Under the guidance of art therapist Mira Skrabania-Piechota, the participants in the classes created works of art over many weeks, which became a form of expression of their emotions, fears and inner needs. The exhibition not only showcases their artistic talents, but also provides a record of the process of healing and finding inner harmony.

The exhibition includes drawings and paintings, as well as impressive installations of multicoloured fabrics – inspired by the art of Magdalena Abakanowicz. These works were created in collaboration, which emphasises the therapeutic role of joint creation.

As Maciej Osuch, administrative manager of the CZP, pointed out, today’s psychiatry is no longer an isolated hospital-moloch, but a close support for the patient, which helps them to open up and trust. In turn, Krzysztof Świerzy, a psychiatrist and head of the CZP, emphasised that art therapy can have effects comparable to traditional psychological therapy – it helps to find peace, understand oneself and accept reality.
During the vernissage, a congratulatory letter and a poem from Professor Marek Krzystanek, a psychiatrist and poet associated with the Silesian Medical University, were also read out.
