ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Humanism was present in photography almost from its beginnings. The third and fourth decades of the 20th century were the heyday of humanist photography. Its primary aim was to record everyday life, but feelings and the transience of moments were the most important element. People were photographed in the streets, bars or cafés, and simple, ordinary people became the protagonists of humanistic photography. All this accounted for its great impact. The main representatives of humanist photography were August Sander, André Kertész and Brassaï, led by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Although I have so far used the past tense, I am convinced that we can successfully speak of humanist photography in the present and future tenses.
