Jacek Opała was born in 1970 in Bolesławiec in Lower Silesia. He is a self-taught artist with a degree in engineering,
who runs his own heritage company. He creates sculptures and ceramics.
He discovered his passion for sculpture when he created his first ceramic forms, with the support of the Blotny brothers at the factory in Parowa. After some time, he opened his own workshop, which he equipped with an electric kiln and began firing his ceramic works in it.
Fascinated by classical art, from ancient Pompeii to Michelangelo to Igor Mitoraj, he strives to ensure that his works contain an ideal harmony of form, aesthetics, vibrancy and colour.
Adding elements of architecture, eroticism and painting, he tries to capture and hold emotions. Because he himself longs for the explicit arts, in his own way he wants his sculptures to tell stories. He is happy when those who view his works recognise a clue in them and create their own further story. He wants the work to be thought-provoking, while at the same time evoking emotion in an obvious way. When asked about his inspiration, he answers that it is life, nature, history, people, everything, in a word.
Jacek Opała’s creative process involves carving a model in clay and making a mould from it. Based on this mould, he creates a series of works with different elements of his stories and different methods of decoration – from raw, rough stoneware to intricate painting elements hidden in the glaze. Each work is different. It is a new challenge and contains elements of technological experimentation. Each can be transformed into a bronze casting.
He is a member of the Polish Ceramic Society
