Mateusz Kijak is a multidisciplinary artist, working in painting, drawing, sculpture, computer graphics, video/animation production and music. In 2014 he graduated from the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He is the author of many animated music videos he has created for well-known musicians including The Outlawz (a band formed in 1995 by Tupac Shakur), Damian Marley, Third World, Dumpstamphunk, Chronixx,Iration, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Young Buck, Elan Atias (a musician known for performing with The Wailers, who were Bob Marley’s backing band), Chupacabras or Peja. The exhibition Mateusz Kijak – “Multidisciplinarily” presents a broad spectrum of the artist’s work, the exhibition includes abstract drawings inspired by the theme of the cosmos (in particular the cosmological singularity) from the period of his studies, as well as the interdisciplinary project Interimpres, which was created at the turn of 2018 and 2019. Within this project, the artist realised a series of abstract paintings, prints and video transformations. In terms of form, this project refers to the previously mentioned works from his student period. Mateusz Kijak moves not only in different fields and techniques, but also in styles and conventions. The exhibition Mateusz Kijak – “Multidisciplinarily”, opens up to the viewer the diverse worlds in which the artist moves and reveals the multiple facets of his work.
BIOGRAM
Mateusz Kijak was born in Tarnów. Graduate of the Comprehensive School of Fine Arts in Tarnów. Studied at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 2009 to 2014. Diploma in the atelier of Professor Bogusz Salwiński, drawing annex in the atelier of Professor Andrzej Zwolak. He works in painting, drawing, sculpture, computer graphics, video production, animation, and music production. Mateusz Kijak has participated in many group and solo exhibitions and has collaborated with many well-known music performers including Peja, The Outlawz (a band founded in 1995 by Tupac Shakur), Damian Marley, Chronixx, Third World, Iration, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Young Buck, Elan Atias etc. In 2014-2015, he collaborated with the SMS Audio Poland label owned by 50 Cent, creating, together with his brother Krystian, a music project entitled. “Interimpres”. In 2016, Mateusz Kijak was involved in the production process, of the first Tarnów full-length feature film directed by Boguslaw Kornasie, entitled. “TodMachine”. In 2017, by the votes of the readers of Gazeta Krakowska, Mateusz Kijak was awarded the title “Personality of the Year” in the culture category; moreover, in 2018 and 2019, the artist was awarded an artistic scholarship granted by the Municipality of the City of Tarnów. In 2022, together with musician Wojtek Stroński, he created a piece entitled Preludium, which found its way into the TVN-produced series “Bunt”. Currently, Mateusz Kijak is working on a number of original projects and continues to collaborate with foreign music record studios.
