ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition “Tree Sculptures” by Zbigniew Bury is a deeply personal and at the same time universal story, rooted in the Beskid tradition, memory and spirituality. The artist – sculptor, painter, ceramicist and cultural animator – reaches for wood to give shape to stories he has been carrying around for years. His works bring together figures of angels and devils, carol singers, children, birds and people, creating a world that balances on the border between sacred and profane, everyday life and myth. Each sculpture carries a strong emotional charge – there are dramatic and playful, lyrical and grotesque figures among them.
Bury does not create stylisation – he creates truth. His sculptures are simple in form, often austere, but full of inner strength and expression. The artist cuts away unnecessary ornamentation, concentrating on the essence of the figure and emotions. His work is close to humanity, touching on universal issues – good and evil, memory, death, loneliness, but also joy, community and a childlike delight in the world. This is why the objects he creates appeal to the viewer both in their form and their symbolism.
“Tree Sculptures” is also an affirmation of tradition and a world that is passing away – the world of Beskid rituals, beliefs and stories, restored in art with great tenderness and respect. It is an exhibition that not only delights, but also moves – leaving a lasting mark on the emotions and memory of the viewer.
